You’ve just gotten out of a meeting than ran late, to the tune of 2 hours late. Nothing was even accomplished in this meeting except hearing the higher level executives banter about the latest football game.
But you stayed in the meeting because walking out would signal you didn’t care. And you want to get noticed and be a part of the club because being part of the inner circle is the only way to matter here.
So you stay a little later to impress some people. You go to the happy hours to show your face as a team player. You slowly give a little of yourself up until one day you look in the mirror and don’t even recognize who you are anymore.
You’ve let chasing a job title dictate who you are.
